Moshe Gat — People in Israel, 1975

Complete Portfolio of 13 Signed Color Lithographs — Printed by Mourlot — No. 143 of 200

Moshe Gat (b. 1935)
People in Israel
New York: William Haber, 1975

A complete large-format portfolio of 13 original color lithographs by Israeli artist Moshe Gat, printed in Paris by the celebrated Mourlot atelier.

This is number 143 of 200 copies, with each of the thirteen lithographs individually signed by Gat in pencil and numbered 143/200.

Created as a series of portraits and scenes reflecting the people and daily life of Israel, the portfolio exemplifies Gat’s distinctive figurative style and his longstanding interest in the human figure. His subjects are rendered with broad, expressive lines and a restrained palette, combining the directness of drawing with the rich surface and color made possible by lithography.

Gat studied at the Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem before traveling through Europe and Mexico, where his exposure to Mexican figurative painting and printmaking had an important influence on his development as an artist.

The thirteen large lithographs were printed by Mourlot in Paris, one of the most important twentieth-century lithographic workshops and printer to artists including Picasso, Chagall, Miró, Matisse, and Braque.

Each print measures approximately 25¾ × 19¾ inches, with full margins, and is enclosed within its titled folio. The portfolio retains the accompanying title, text, and contents leaves and is housed in the original folding case.
